Give Orphans Bibles!

girl with a bible

Dear Friends,

Can you imagine a child being ecstatic about getting his or her very own Bible?

It must be hard to envision this when our American kids are so plugged into television, video games, and social media.

In Africa, however, kids pray for months and even years that God would provide them with a Bible.

I first discovered this on August 15, 2003 when I was privileged to distribute Bibles to the kids who live at Dawnview Park Children’s Home in Harare, Zimbabwe.

I will never forget what one boy named Adam Makuze shared with me: “Uncle Bob, I have prayed for months that God would give me a Bible so that I can follow my pastor when he speaks on Sundays. Now God has answered my prayers.”

This simple gift ignited a spark in Adam’s heart that has grown into a roaring fire.

Adam married a wonderful young woman recently, and today they are the house parents at Dawnview Park, the very Children’s Home that Adam lived in as a young child and youth.

Your gift of $10 or more will plant the same spark in the life of a young orphaned African child or youth.

Many of our sponsored kids in Africa have committed their lives to Jesus Christ.

In August, 2016, Doug Ehrgott, Horizon’s Director of Global Teams, baptized 58 Zambian children and teenagers at Horizon Zambia’s Annual Kid’s Camp.

This last August, another 44 were baptized.

These kids, and others like them all across Africa, are being challenged to grow in their relationship with Christ through the biblical instruction they receive in their respective Children’s Clubs and local congregations.

Their growth in Christ would be accelerated if they each had their own Bible.

In the City of Kampala and Buikwe District, Uganda nine new Children’s Clubs have been launched in recent months for some 200 orphaned kids.

Horizon Uganda’s leaders would love to give each of these kids a Bible.

These Ugandan leaders and their peers all across Horizon’s African network are requesting 3,000 Bibles to distribute through their Children’s Clubs.

During the month of February, we will be working to raise $30,000 so that we can purchase these 3,000 Bibles.

$10 will buy one. $50 will purchase five. $250 will get 25. $500 will make it possible to distribute 50.

When you receive this letter, I will be in Harare, Zimbabwe spending time with Adam and his bride, plus other young leaders who were given Bibles that day at Dawnview Park fifteen years ago—among them Adam Kamunde, Tapiwa Kanengoni, and Terrence Masvosva.

We will undoubtedly share about their days growing up at Dawnview Park, and the impact those Bibles had in shaping their lives and relationships with Jesus Christ.

We will also pray intentionally for God’s favor and blessing for the funding needed to purchase Bibles so that a new generation of kids can learn about God.

Grateful for you in your ministry of giving,

Bob Pearson
